PET Recycling Machine Technology

At present, the consumption of PET plastic beverage bottles is very high. The recycling of waste PET beverage bottles can not only reduce environmental pollution, but also turn waste into treasure. But only a few of them are utilized and the rest are discarded at will, resulting in waste of resources and environmental pollution. Therefore, its recycling technology has broad prospects.

There are two kinds of recycling methods for PET beverage bottles: chemical recycling and physical recycling.

Chemical recovery is a method of depolymerizing waste PET bottles to produce useful chemicals under certain reaction conditions, such as producing low-grade fuel gasoline.

Physical recovery is a method of reclaiming waste PET bottles after separation, crushing, washing and drying. There are two main physical recovery methods: one is to cut waste PET bottles into pieces and separate HDPE, aluminium, paper and adhesives from PET, and then wash, dry and granulate the PET fragments; the other is to separate non-PET bottle caps, base, labels and other magazines on waste PET bottles by mechanical method, after washing, crushing and granulating.

The former process is to remove stones, wood and other plastic products and colored PET bottles manually. PVC impurities should not be included in recycled PET because their presence is the key factor affecting the color of PET. When the amount of PVC is small, it can be separated manually on the conveyor belt. That is to say, under torsion, PVC and PET bottles produce different physical phenomena in the stressed part. The opaque traces appear in the PVC bottles, and the PET bottles can be separated without them. Some companies also use different melting points of PVC and PET to separate broken PET and PVC fragments from PET through conveyor belts equipped with heaters to control a certain temperature. PVC is melted and adhered to conveyor belts, which can be separated from PET. Iron is separated by a ferromagnetic separator.

Some PET bottles are crushed only once, others are crushed first, then subdivided, and finally become 1.0-1.5 cm-sized fragments. A sieve with aperture of 1.0-1.5 cm is installed at the outlet of crusher to control the size of debris.

Washing and impurity separation technology is the key to obtain high quality regenerated PET. Beverage bottles are usually made of plastic PE or indicator labels. Paper labels can be used as adhesives or bonded to bottles during blow moulding. When PET bottles are broken, some labels are broken into fragments. Some of them still adhere to PET fragments. After breaking, PET is usually separated by a combination of blower and cyclone separator, which can remove about 98% of loose label fragments, or can be separated and packed by an extraction tower. After separation, the broken PET fragments are added vertically from the top of the separation tower, and the fragments and updraft flow form counter current. By using the difference of the specific gravity between PET and label fragments, the label is removed and the PET is removed from the bottom of the separator. In order to ensure the separation efficiency of the label, more than two sets of separation devices can be used in production.

The purpose of washing is to remove the residues in adhesives, ash and raw bottles. Washing uses hot water at 80-100 C to soften or dissolve EVA adhesives or other types of adhesives for sticking labels and substrates. In order to prevent the adhesives from falling off from adhering to PET fragments, additives such as alkali, emulsifier or other special chemical agents need to be added to the water. The composition and content of the cleaning solution are generally determined by the factory according to the source and bonding characteristics of waste bottles. The cleaning solution can filter out impurities. After re-heating and recycling, washing can be carried out in a special cleaning tank equipped with agitators. In order to ensure the cleaning effect, a two-stage washing process can be adopted.

The separation of the base is based on the different characteristics of HDPE density and PET density of the base. Separation is carried out in the decaying tank, HDPE fragments overflow from the top of the tank, and sinking PET fragments come out from the bottom of the tank. Others use hydro cyclone instead of flotation tank, which has better separation effect.

PET fragments are usually dried by centrifugal dehydrator to reduce the moisture content of fragments to 2%, and then by belt or tube dryer to reduce the moisture content to 0.5%.

PET can not contain aluminium impurities, even trace aluminium impurities will affect the transparency of recycled PET, so the aluminium content in recycled PET should be less than 50 x 10-6. The simplest way to separate aluminium is to remove the aluminium cap, aluminium ring manually before crushing or to reduce the aluminium content to 100 x 10-6 by electrostatic separation, which can be carried out on the conveyor belt. If the PET fragments pass through the metal detection and separation system. After one step purification, the aluminium content can be less than 5 *10-6.

There is little difference between regenerated PET extrusion granulation and original PET extrusion granulation except feeding. Single screw or twin screw extruder can be used for extrusion granulation, but the traditional extruder must be considered in the design when the feed pressure is too high, and the screw with larger size of the feed part is used instead. If the twin screw extruder is used, the effect will be better.

The latter process: the recovery method is to separate the non-PET components in the PET bottle and then crush and recycle them. It first uses artificial methods to separate stones, wood and other plastic products as well as non-ferrous beverage bottles. The separation of PVC bottles can be carried out by manual selection or by PVC separation equipment. Separation of metal iron can be carried out by magnetic separator. The bottle enters the cleaning machine after passing through the conveyor, and the bottle enters the processing line vertically. The bottle cap and pulling ring are removed by ring remover and capping remover, and the cap is removed by weighing. It is found that the weight of a bottle exceeds the standard and is separated from the production line.

Then, 100 ml boiling water is injected into each waste PET bottle to dissolve the residual beverage in the bottle. At the same time, the bottle is clamped and hung up. The outside of the bottle is washed with high pressure water, and the adhesive is softened with hot water, so that the base falls off and the plastic or paper labels come off. After washing, the bottom of the bottle is removed and the water in the bottle is released. Crushing is like the equipment in the first process, and the fragments of PET bottles are dried by a continuous dryer.
